Over the last few months, my mom has been commenting every time she sees a wreath with yellow flowers on it. I decided this would be the perfect Mother’s Day gift! I could have just gone out and bought one, but that just isn’t my style. Recently my friend mentioned that she was ripping out some grape vines in her back yard. Before she threw them out, I headed over and filled up the back seat of my car with a bundle! To most people this may just look like a pile of sticks, but I see potential!
I started with a couple pieces and created my circle. I then slowly weaved in more vines, two or three at a time, until my wreath looked full! It took a little work and manipulation to get the circle shape, and it still didn’t end a perfect circle, but I love the way it turned out!
The next step was to add the flowers! I bought two bundles of yellow flowers at Hobby Lobby, and I had the rest of the supplies on hand. I pictured wire and twine, but I just ended up using the wire (I find twine and wire at estate sales all the time and I always pick them up! These are two things I use constantly when crafting and they are much cheaper at estate sales that at the store). I also used wire cutters and two different types of small pliers. Gypsy was my little helper throughout this project. By helper, I do mean he enjoyed biting the flowers off the branches one by one.
I had two large bundles of the yellow flowers, so to make them work with the wreath, I cut them into smaller pieces. For this step, I used the wire cutters.
I stuck the base of the first set of flowers in between the vines in the wreath and attached the the other end with a small piece of wire. I used the wire cutters and both of my pliers for this step. I did this over and over until I had flowers all the way around. I did have some flowers left over, but I would much rather have extra than not enough.
Gypsy was very proud of our finished product!
Even though this wreath is a gift for my mom for Mother’s Day, I had to see what it looked like on the front door! I am loving it! I just might have to make one for myself with those extra flowers!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there! (including pet mommies like me!)
A very special happy Mother’s day to my mom! I love her very much and don’t know what I would do without her. She is the reason I love crafting and being creative and I am so thankful she passed that on to me. Some of my best memories are crafting with her when I was little and we continue to make more memories crafting as I get older!
